Wikileaks shuts down

Yes, it was always on the cards. It was just the question of how long they could hold on? I think the question is now answered. Wikileaks has stopped publishing confidential files due to a financial crisis within the organisation. The action is said to be a temporary one but I think its gonna be permanent. The organisation describes it as a “fight for survival”. Julian Assange, wikileaks founder has made it very clear that, if they can’t overcome the crisis, it will probably be the unofficial end of wikileaks.

Wikileaks runs on donations from various people and news groups. Now companies like Visa, PayPal, MasterCard and Western Union, have stopped wikileaks from accepting donations. The action is prompted by the influence of US government, as everybody can assume. Wikileaks is certainly shell shocked by this move and says that it is totally unfair. The blockade has cost them millions. And by the general business rule, if your business loses millions, it’s better to shut down and that is exactly what they did. Wikileaks suffered a similar challenge in 2010 and was shut down temporarily, but later they recovered well.
